The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) schedule has been announced today. Keeping with tradition, defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on runners-up Chennai Super Kings in the opener in Abu Dhabi on September 19.
Moved out of India due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, the upcoming edition of the world’s biggest T20 league will be held in the three venues of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the UAE.
After the tournament-opener, Dubai will host its first game the next day when Delhi Capitals take on Kings XI Punjab followed by the third match on Monday between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The action will then shift to Sharjah on September 22 when Rajasthan Royals will host Chennai Super Kings.
The schedule for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has finally been released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The tournament, which will be the first action that Indian stars will see in a very long time owing to COVID-19 pandemic, will commence of the 19th of September.
As was initially expected, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) face off in the IPL 2020 season opener, followed by a clash between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on the second day.
League matches to end on November 4As far as the schedule is concerned, the 56 league matches will go on until November 3 after which the top four teams will qualify for the playoffs. The first qualifier, eliminator and second qualifier schedule and venues will be announced later. For the first time in the history of the IPL, the final will be played on a weekday. This decision was taken to utilise the Diwali week and it remains to be seen if it reaps rewards.
